Craig

Timing really was everything in life. Why was Craig’s always so bad? It seemed like he should have been able to catch a break by this point in his life.

He just wanted to scream. And punch a hole in the wall. If he had gone in to rob the store just a few seconds earlier, or if that police car had shown up at the gas station a few seconds later, Craig would have been able to make a clean getaway.

He’d be back at his apartment right now, flush with cash.

But no. He was stuck inside this mini-mart trying to hatch a plan to keep himself out of jail.

The world just wasn’t fair sometimes. Or all the time. At least when it came to his life. Maybe other people got all of the luck that was supposed to go his way.

It was hard for him not to feel sorry for himself right then. Unfortunately, there was no time for a pity party.

He needed to do some serious brainstorming. That would be a tall task if he was feeling at his best. But after the emotional turmoil and drug withdrawal that he’d been dealing with all day, his mind was all over the place.

On top of that, he was hungry like crazy.

Still, there had to be a solution to this problem.

A way for him to get out of here, ideally without having to kill either of the hostages.

After all, he was a thief, not a murderer. At least, not yet.

Those cops had better not push him.

If push came to shove, all bets were off.

But he was getting ahead of himself.

At that point, he just needed to come up with a plan of any kind.

And it needed to happen soon.

The longer he was stuck in there, the more time the police had to formulate a plan of their own.

The deeper Craig got in thought, the more he kept going back to one thing. He had to keep at least one hostage by his side as he made a getaway. That was his only chance of getting out of this mini-mart alive.

If he used a hostage as a shield, the cops likely wouldn’t be brazen enough to fire at him.

With a getaway car, he could drive to the edge of town.

From there, he could set the hostage free and keep driving.

That way, Craig could make his way to safety without having to kill anyone.

Craig was going to keep thinking, but this was definitely the best plan he’d come up with so far.
